Cirrus data & system memory limitations
If the folder with the Cirrus data (terrain or clutter) is =< 1 GB in size, all the Cirrus data will be held in cache memory.
If the folder with the Cirrus data (terrain or clutter) is > 1 GB in size, none of the Cirrus data will be held in cache memory and will be read in from disk each time.
One tile grid square of EDX 1 meter clutter data is approximately 10 GB in size.
When using the EDX Software and not using Cirrus data, we recommend between 8 - 16 GB of system memory (RAM).
If using Cirrus data, we recommend configuring as much system memory (RAM) as possible over 16 GB (32-64 GB).
Within the software is a menu option called Database options. You can find this under the databases menu. Within here you are able to configure the software to use more memory if available.
By default the checkbox is switched to auto assign 25% of RAM to terrain and clutter. If your terrain or clutter for the project is larger than 1 GB, you will want to come to this menu and be sure to uncheck the box. Then you can manually assign how much RAM you would like for both terrain and clutter.
