Using Run Statistic to Calculate Average Terrain Height
Currently the Calculate Statistics method does not include terrain data and newer study layers.
To take an average terrain using the study queries…menu item, follow these steps:
Add terrain layer to map: Double click on Map Layers Menu tree item-> add map layer->terrain
Double Click on the Terrain on the project tree. Change map style to flat grid. To get all the terrain values to fall in a single bin, use 3 levels with really high and really low thresholds. 20,000m and -20,000m are used for this example.
Then navigate to Query-> Study Queries. Select the terrain radio button. Then select you boundary type if any. This example uses an ellipse. Then select the Run Query button.
Then draw the desired shape. The result should appear shortly. The minimum, maximum and average terrain values are shown below:
