When you run an area study, then run a matching Point to Multipoint study, the area study results do not agree point by point with the MP study.

It is possible and likely (depending on your study setup) that you can see difference between what the area study shows and whatt the CPE’s show.

The area study uses a radial line method for creating the underlying work files (where it gets the terrain and clutter information), then it uses the center of each study grid bin to go into the work files and pull the information it needs to plug into the area study, and paint the bin with the study results.

The Mp study does a single path directly from the base station to the CPE location.

Because of this difference, the results can, and usually will be slightly different, but again, depending on setup, can be pretty significant.

Things that will affect this difference:

  • the resolution of the terrain and clutter databases you’re using

  • the number of radials and the study point spacing along the radial in the base station setup

  • the study grid bin spacing

  • weather you’re using radial line or grid optimized radials for the area studies.

Hopefully this helps answer your questions. If you still have further questions, let me know. We can also to an online meeting if this is too much to absorb over e-mail.
