Introduction

The databases that define buildings in your SignalPro project can get large. As the MCS files that contain building data grow, SignalPro can slow down. To mitigate this, you can configure a limit to MCS file size during database configuration with the MCS Chop Target Size setting – the Chopper.

The number that you configure in the Chopper’s scroll box represents the size of a chopped, or reduced, MCS file. When an MCS file’s size exceeds twice the configured value, SignalPro chops its size to the value you set. In addition, the MCS Chopper splits large building datasets into smaller files. This enables the system to load only buildings that the SignalPro Map Window currently displays rather than reading the entire dataset from disk. This provides improved disk access speed and rendering responsiveness.

Procedure

To set a limit on SignalPro MCS file sizes:

  1. In the Menu Bar, select Databases > Buildings/Floor Plans to display the Building/Floor Plan Database dialog, similar to the following:

    MCS Settings Section

  2. In the MCS Settings section (outlined in red in the previous graphic), use the MCS Chop Target Size scroll box to configure a limit to the number of megabytes that you want SignalPro to allow in the MCS files of the database you’re configuring.

  3. After configuring all of the database settings that you're concerned with, click OK.
