Study Preferences
The Study Preferences dialog box allows you to select two options that control how Studies are performed.
The first option determines if the transmitter study work files are regenerated each time a study runs. The software keeps track of basic signal level information for the points around each individual transmitter. This information continues to be used on successive studies if no fundamental changes have been made to a transmitter’s parameters. Much time is saved when previously calculated information can be re-used. However, if you want to ensure that new data is always calculated, choose the Always re-calculate work files check box.
Using this option will increase the processing time for successive studies. Reset all working files will immediately erase all working files in the project.
The Calculate (n) strongest signals sets the maximum number of signals that are stored in the primary raw signal work file during each Study. The software sorts the signal levels from all the transmitters found at each grid study point into a strongest transmitter list which is then used to determine the serving and interfering transmitters during the study. A value of six is the default number and is adequate for most purposes. There is no maximum other than the limits of computer memory and hard drive storage space. Consider carefully before opting to use more than six signals since accuracy may not necessarily be improved but processing time and storage space may be greatly affected.
Configure Default Colors will open a dialog that allows you to set the default colors and number of signal levels that a study will start with when you create a new Study. To set up a study, select the Study Name from the drop-down list, select the number of levels you want to have and choose the colors and values. This configuration is saved as a Program Default, meaning that it will be effective regardless of what Project you have loaded.
