Creating Transmitter and Link Groups on Your Map

The last two items on the RF Systems menu give you the option to create transmitter/sector or link groups using a drag-and-drop procedure. As discussed in previous articles, you can create transmitter and link groups using the dialog boxes and their function buttons. However, sometimes it is helpful to be able to create a group graphically from the map.

To create a transmitter group, click on the New Tx Group menu selection. The mouse pointer will change to a small rectangular marker with a “crosshairs” above the upper left corner. You can then click the two corners of a drag-and-drop rectangle which encompasses the transmitter sites you want to include in your new group. Following the drag and drop operation, the Edit Transmitter Group dialog box will open where you will be prompted for the name and description of the group. Once you enter the information and click OK, this new group will be created and appear in your transmitter group list.

A new link group can be created in the same way by clicking on the New Link Group menu selection. When you perform the drag-and-drop operation, a link will be included in the group if either or both of the link endpoints are inside the drag rectangle. To cancel the new tx group or new link group marker activation, press the keyboard esc key. Another way to create a new transmitter or CPE group is to use the polygon creation tool in the Draw menu.
