Demographic

Selecting Databases > Demographic from the main menu bar allows you to set up the demographic database. You can select the EDX US Census database for the United States as derived from the 1990, 2000 or 2010 census data, or you can select an ASCII demographic format database. The first three are packaged products sold by EDX. The last is an open format database which you can develop yourself for the United States or for other countries using the format descriptions in Appendix D. If you have no demographic database available for your location, select None as your database type.

Regardless of which database type you choose, you must specify the Directory path where the data is stored. This is done at the second data entry location using the Browse button.

When you have the database information correctly entered, the data is available for use in displaying demographic density maps as described previously in Demographic Data.

The User ASCII demographic open format lets you use databases with a wide variety of information, not just population counts. For example, you may have data describing income, number of phone lines, average age per household, or Internet access. See Appendix D for more information.
