New, Delete, Copy Map View

New Map View

When you are ready to create another map view for your project, you can select File>New Map View or right-click on Map View in the project pane on the left side of your screen. If you don’t see the project pane, go to View>Show Project and the project pane will appear on the left of the application window. A dialog box will appear where you can enter the name you want for your new  map view. Once you enter a name, a new, blank map will open with the same mapping and study parameters as the map view that was previously active. You will notice that your new map view immediately shows up in the project pane on the left. This new map view is now part of your current project.

Once you have a map view, you can begin to make changes. This can be helpful to you if you would like to simultaneously view two maps of the same area, each with different types of information. For instance, you can display detailed terrain elevation data in one map view, detailed land use/clutter in another map view, and received power at remote in yet another map view. The program allows you to simultaneously display up to nine map views.

While a map can have completely different study and map layer setups, RF Equipment, terrain/clutter/other databases and propagation model settings are universal to all map views. Changing a Tx parameter in one map view changes it in all map views, because it’s the same piece of equipment regardless of view.

There are system overhead penalties to having more than one map view, especially if you have a lot of studies and have added map view data to each view. Over time, as the program has to keep track of this additional information, it’s possible the whole system could slow down. It’s most noticeable when it takes longer and longer to return mouse control to the user after entering/exiting dialog boxes and such. If you notice this type of slowdown, consider deleting map views, or create copies of the project for each map view.

Delete Map View

If you would like to delete a particular map view from your project, you must first select that map view and make it the focus map. If you have multiple map view windows on the screen, click in the window or on the title bar of that view (you can also select from the Window menu. When you are sure you have the right map selected, select File>Delete Map View and the map will be permanently deleted from your project. Alternately, you can right-click on the map view in the project pane and select Delete from the resulting map view options menu. The map will be permanently deleted from your project.

There is no option to undo deleting a map view.

Copy Map View

Once you have set up a map view, you can copy the map view in order to replicate it for another purpose. In order to do this you must first select the map view you would like to copy by clicking on the title bar of that view or by clicking the name of that map view in the project pane. When you are sure you have the right map selected, select File>Copy Map View and the program will prompt you to enter a new name for the copied map view. You can enter a new name or accept the default name selected by the program. Click OK and the new map view will display immediately on the screen. Alternately, you can right-click on the map view name in the project pane and select Copy.
