How To Use EDX Novus

Novus is the latest application from EDX. Novus is our nationwide study application, the first application that can run full nationwide coverage studies. This article is meant to serve as a “How to” for EDX Novus.

Novus

Upon launching Novus for the first time, you may be prompted to log in. If you are a current user of SignalPro with active maintenance on Cirrus Licensing, Novus may automatically pick up your Cirrus license login.

The login process is similar to SignalPro. Once you press Login, a browser window pops up where you will be able to enter in the user email and password, or you can create your account if you’re a first-time user of Novus.

If you are a user with multiple licenses, then you will have the option to select which license you would like to log in with and access Novus.

Once the application is open, you are first presented with the dashboard menu. The dashboard menu will show you a list of all projects in Novus. You can open or export a project from the dashboard menu.

The next menu that is available is the project menu. Here you can create a new project, merge projects together for viewing, or you can import a new project into Novus.

  • To create a new project, you must first give it a name and choose which study type you would like to include and set the study grid resolution for the project. Then point to all of your various project files. You will point to your list of transmitters in .csv format. If you would like, you can choose a propagation model for the project as well. You finally point to the underlying terrain and clutter data along with your attenuation file. Then you can proceed with creating the project and it should load onto the viewer.

  • When you merge projects together, you will first point to the primary project. Then you will point to the secondary project. Finally, you will give the new resulting project a name and press merge. This should bring up the newly merged project onto the viewer.

  • The import project feature will allow users of SignalPro to seamlessly import their projects to be viewed in Novus. Novus will have full capability to run the studies within the project that was imported.

After the project menu is the map menu. In the map menu you will be able to see a project that has been opened within Novus. Here is an example of one of our nationwide coverage studies that was run:

The map menu also allows you to load in various datasets that EDX offers. The map menu allows for full zoom at mouse control, so wherever the cursor is, as you zoom, the map will zoom into that cursor location.
