Licensing scenarios

This document is meant to provide guidance on all possible licensing scenarios. We currently offer 3 different licensing options, each option can have multiple setup scenarios.

Cirrus Licensing

Cirrus licensing is EDX Wireless' new cloud platform that allows users to run Signal & SignalPro without a physical USB key. This option includes features that improve the performance of the software, such as the ability to cache study results in the cloud and then speeding up future studies. Not needing the USB key means that this option is going to be the easiest option for remote work, and using VPN’s/Remote desktops.

Network Licensing

Network licensing requires a physical USB key that is usually red in color. This option allows for multiple users. This key will both verify that the user has an active license with EDX and a valid serial number. The key should be plugged into the office designated network license server, or potentially into a personal machine. The user will launch Signal/SignalPro from their machine and the software will attempt to connect to that license server where the Network key is located, and verify the important information. This licensing option works with remote desktop work as well. The user would VPN or Remote desktop into the office to connect to the license server and then launch the software from their machine

Standalone Key Licensing

Standalone key licensing requires a physical USB key, usually green/purple/black in color. This key will verify that the user has an active license and serial number with EDX. This key will need to be plugged directly into the users machine. Once launched with the key plugged into the machine the software will verify an active license. Standalone licensing will not work for remote work. This option allows for one user to be operating at a time as the usb key can only be plugged into one machine. below

Below, you will find all licensing scenarios:

  • Cirrus @ home or in office

  • Cirrus @ home or in office W/ Virtual Machine

  • Cirrus @ home W/ Remote desktop into office

  • Cirrus @ home or in office W/ EDX operated Azure VM

  • Network key in office.

  • Network key @ home W/ VPN/Remote desktop to office

  • Standalone key in office

Cirrus Scenarios

Cirrus Licensing is the newest option from EDX Wireless. Not only is It fast and seamless. Each of the images(scenarios) below show possible configurations using cirrus licensing. Consistent across all cirrus licensing scenarios is the login feature. SignalPro requires the user to login when first launching. The user will be prompted to login again after 14 days. This link will take you to an article that will walk you through the cirrus log in feature: /wiki/spaces/EK/pages/729645065

at Home or in Office

...

The first scenario is a user working from a PC/laptop at home. The user runs SignalPro on the machine where the cirrus licensing is verified in the cloud via logging in, or launching SignalPro and already being logged in. This scenario is very straightforward and doesn’t have much to worry about other than the minimum required specs for SignalPro. Here are some basic error messages to look out for: Installation error - Error 1722

at home or in office W/ Virtual Machine

...

In this scenario, the user will be run SignalPro off of their virtual machine. The user should ensure they correctly set up their VM so that it runs SignalPro optimally. The user will launch their VM, and then launch SignalPro. They will be prompted to log in and this will verify the user has an active license with EDX. If the user has logged in previously, the software will launch immediately.

at home W/ Remote desktop into office

...

In this scenario, the user will be using a machine to securely remote desktop into their office. This office machine will run SignalPro and this is where the users license will be verified. The user will launch their remote desktop to connect to their machine in the office, they will launch SignalPro and be prompted to log in.

w/ cloud VM (Azure, AWS, GCP)

...

In this scenario, the user will run SignalPro on our Azure Virtual Machines. These VM’s are set up by EDX and will run SignalPro optimally. In this Scenario the user will launch the Azure VM, they will launch SignalPro and be prompted to log-in and this will verify the users license for the software. If the user has logged in previously the SignalPro will launch right away. This virtual environment is the ideal set up for SignalPro. As a result, users will experience shorter run time for studies.
